As a capital city of Republic of Philippines, Manila become a dense city. As a big city Manila have many problem, once is traffic jam. In this post we will know about transporation system in Manila to provide a good transportation for it's citizen.
Transportation in Manila divide into some moda, Buses, jeepneys, LRT, and taxis are readily available for use in getting around the city. About 14 percent of the 158,810 km (98,110 mi) of roads in the Philippines are paved, this is in spite of the difficult mountainous terrain.
The most popular mode of transportation in Manila is the jeepney. As the name implies, it is basically a colorful jeep that looks like those used by the Americans during World War II. They have regular stops, as do buses, but will also stop if they are flagged down.
A modern transportation moda is LRT (Light Transit System). This moda is provide transportation in Metro Manila, Capital City of Manila. Metro manila or the National Capital Region (NCR) is the greater metropolitan area of the city of Manila, the national capital of the Philippines. Its residential population of 11,099,800 (2007 estimate) makes it the eleventh most populous metropolitan area in the world and the Second largest in Southeast Asia. However during the daytime its population well exceeds 16 million.[citation needed] Metro Manila is one of the three defined metropolitan areas in the Philippines, the others being Metro Cebu and Metro Davao.
The Manila LRT is the first metro system in Southeast Asia, built earlier than the Singapore MRT by three years. The system is not related to the Manila Metro Rail Transit System, or the Blue Line, which forms a completely different but linked system.
This moda is the fastest, cheapest way to go. Because of the fastest and cheapest, LRT become a favourite for tourist on travelling Manila. Metro-Manila, the metropolitan area of the capital of the Philippines is home to some 10 million people. A light metro system (Mass Rail Transit - MRT), which runs mainly elevated, is being developed.
There are about 4 line of LRT, LRT 1 to LRT 4. LRT 1 extension south 12km. The first phase stations are named (from Baclaran) Redemptorist, Manila International Airport, Asia World, Ninoy Aquino, Dr. Santos, Manuyo Uno, Las Pilas, Zapote, Talaba, and Niyog.
LRT 2. This line is elevated between Doroteo JosE (LRT 1) to Cubao (MRT 3) in Quezon City, and further on to Santolan in Pasig. It will run along Recto Ave, Magsaysay Blvd and Aurora Blvd.
MRT 3 (popularly called METROSTAR) runs elevated along EDSA (Epifanio de los Santos Ave.) ring road (except Buendia station which is underground). The central section opened on 16 Dec. 1999, the southern section, which connects to LRT 1 followed on 20 July 2000. The total length is now 16.8 km, once the northern section is built the line will be 24 km.
MRT 4 running northeast from Doroteo Jose/Recto into Quezon City connecting with North Ave. Stn. on line 3, with 20 stations have been completed by 2007.

Bangkok, Thailand
Bangkok, the capital of Thailand Kingdom, in thai called as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, is the 22nd most populous city in the world. Bangkok province or the areas bounded by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), has a registered population nearing 7 million people, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Area.
Which covers five provinces surrounding the capital province in the central region of Thailand registers a little over 10 million. However, like many large cities, the city has seen a great flux of immigrants who are not properly listed in the city's administration. The population is therefore much more realistic in the band of 15-20 million.
An elaborate network of canals known as khlongs gave Bangkok the nickname "Venice of the East" at a time when most transportation was by boat. Today, nearly all of the canals have been filled in and converted into streets. While many khlongs still exist with people living along them and markets often being operated along the banks, most are severely polluted.[7] A notable khlong market is the floating market in Taling Chan district. Through downtown Bangkok runs the Khlong Saen Saeb, which has a canal boat service, the most extensive of which is the Chao Phraya Express Boat with as many as thirty stops along the both banks of the Saen Saeb. However, there are limitations as the further north the route is the farther apart the stations are, impeding the ability of this water taxi to function as a true mass transit system.
Roads
Several elevated highways, newly rebuilt intersections, and many partially finished road and rail projects dot the landscape around greater Bangkok, but have done little to overcome the notorious traffic jams on Bangkok's surface roads as private vehicle usage continues to outstrip infrastructure development. Many city residents complain that they spend more than half their waking day on the streets on an open-air city bus.
Bangkok also includes many shopping and business roads like the Sukhumvit Road which includes highrise business buildings, apartments, and shopping malls, Sukhumvit Road is where many foreigners like to come shopping. The Wireless Road or Thanon Wittayu include the Stock Exchange of Thailand and many business buildings like the All Seasons Place Complex which includes the Conrad Bangkok, a shopping mall, and many other business offices. The Thanon Khaosan or Khaosan Road is also well-known by foreigners. One of the popular shopping roads for teenagers is Rama I road, which has the Siam Paragon, Siam Square, and the Siam Discovery Center.
Bangkok may be known as one of the worst cities in the world for traffic, but it has built an expressway or second-level road on almost every road in the city center, and there continue to be plans for new expressways monthly. The government has also tried many times to improve the state of the traffic in the city center, which can sometimes take an hour just to move one kilometer.[citation needed]
Rail systems
In 1999 an elevated two-line Skytrain (officially called BTS) metro system was opened. The remains of a failed elevated railroad project (the Hopewell project) can still be seen all the way from the main railroad station out towards Don Mueang Airport. Due to the Asian financial crisis of 1997 construction was halted and the concrete pillars were left unused.
The MRT subway system opened for use in July 2004. The MRT connects the northern train station of Bang Sue to the Hua Lamphong central railway station near the city center, while also going through the eastern part of Bangkok. It connects to the BTS system at BTS stations Mo Chit, Asok, and Sala Daeng. Many stations have various designs and concepts with many to install retail shops and transit malls to draw more income from commuters.

Busway and Our Bad Attitudes
We have a mass transit rapid system call Busway (from bus way, bus have priviledge to drive on its/own way), operated by transjakarta corporation. As a new mass transport, this transport is being polemic at beginning. Yes, the build of busway project i scaused a long traffic jam in many area of jakarta.
Jakarta, the big and dense city, with minimum good public facility have to strugle with its citizen increase and increase. So, a good mass rapid transportation is a must. We have a busway now. Its a good start. But we see on many palce, bus way is not only BUSWAY's way, but every body way. They may be city car, bus, motorcycle, and all private car. Its become a question, whats is bus way for? If anybody can driven by, and no punishment will come.
Gatot Subroto-Mampang street
Jakarta is crowdwd, right, overcrowded, but its not a reason for as to hit a public law. Bus way is designed to make a mass bus, comfortable bus, rapid bus. Idf everyone can use its way, what is the different between bus way and other city transport?
Busway is the begining. But if we dont change our atitude, other good project will get same result: fail.

save Our River
After some East and Central Java region have been swap by Bengawan Solo River, we nedd to re-think about river management in Indonesia. Yes, Indonesia, a tropical country with tropical forest and river, with high rain debit, must have high knowledment about how to make our nature safe.
Bengawan Solo, the longest river in Indonesia, from wonogiri to Gresik Surabaya. To safe bengawan solo is about safe people from wonogiri to surabaya, so a plan is about management all section of bengawan solo, not partial management. Water is transported from one side to the edge, from higher place to the down.
A Jakarta, with many river groove, have high risk flood because of river and nature mis-management. Did you see, how many river in Jakarta is clean? I think only Kalimalang river is the cleanest river arround Jakarta. Lets see ciliwung, the most popular river, because every year send flood to jakarta.
If you see at Manggarai watergate you will see a ton of rubish float and fulling the water, so you can't see anytghing but rubish, waste.
The question is, when Jakarta ready to free from flood. Jakarta, tha capital of the Republic of Indonesia, a country with more than 200 milion peoples, the bigest country in SEA. Its a pity. Bad Transportation with bad diciplin roder, bad city bus, bad public facility, bad attitude.
When, or Like Ebiet say Shall we ask to dancing grass?

Jakarta in Crowd
Jakarta in crowd. Its a commmon looking when you travelling acrross jakarta. Traffic Jam. You will spent about 45 minutes to travell about 5 km, in normal you can travel in 12minutes. Its because of busway project. The Jakarta Mass Transportation Project.
Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) is employed by Jakarta Administration to is a New York-based non-governmental organization working to promote environmentally sustainable and equitable transportation policies and projects worldwide.
Project director from the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) Budi Kuntjoro said Wednesday traffic congestion caused by the construction of busway corridors would be short term and would lead to long-term benefits.
This project is planned to reduce the number of private vehicles on the streets. Busway busses also run off gas, which is less harmful to the environment.
And Jakarta being cowded. Is this project have to stopped or continue?

RI wants balance representation at UNSC
Indonesia wants reforms in the UN Security Council to reflect a balanced representation of the world's diverse cultures and civilizations rather than just the addition of more members, said Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda on Tuesday.
"Without ensuring balanced representation, the expansion of the Security Council may result in new gaps between developed and developing countries," he said.
Among the most anticipated items on the agenda at the UN's 62nd annual General Assembly that commenced last week is the expansion of the council's membership, both for its permanent and non-permanent members.
The grand expectation for a breakthrough in reforming the Security Council that came during the 2005 UN Summit has lost its momentum and needs a boost, Hassan said.
Simply adding members based on a region would not address the criticisms of the council that suggest it works in favor of its permanent members who possess veto power, he said
"For instance, 1.3 billion people in Islamic countries are not well represented in the Security Council.
"It's about time we have democracy at the international level," he said.
